I was invited again by the FISD swim team to attend this year’s LEAD event, dubbed LEAD 20 for FISD Junior athletes and it truly is an inspiring experience. The event has been held at Mustang Creek Church the last two years and the event is meant to inspire FISD junior athletes to be the best leaders they can be as they move on to their senior year of high school. You will find FISD’s Athletic Director, various coaches of all sports, community volunteers, community leaders, and professional public speakers who give presentations on what it takes and what t means to be a leader. They also conduct challenges for the students to compete for prizes donated by local businesses including free Whataburger and Jersey Mike’s.
As I watched and listened during this event I couldn’t help but be impressed not only by the level of staff in our ISD but how in tune the students were during the four hour event. They truly were interested in being leaders for each other and for their community. I was impressed at the level of confidence many of them have to stand up in front of such a large crowd and give their input and how well spoken they were. Throughout time as people have grown older there has always been a tendency to question the youngsters in the world, what they wear, their hairstyles, what music they listen to, etc. Living in Forney and being involved in the community I have to say that FISD is leading our children in the right direction. They truly are doing a fantastic job.
Thank you to Jason Thompson FISD’s swim team coach for inviting me. Thank you to the swim team for engaging in such great conversation about leadership. Believe it or not you inspire me to be a better leader as well. Thank you to FISD for having the vision and putting forth the resources and effort to make events like LEAD 20 happen. It really is impressive.
