The Forney Economic Development Corporation will discuss a new park area slated for downtown Forney at their scheduled meeting on January 11th. The new park is to be located next door to the new Forney Brewery that is also coming to downtown. The park, as proposed, would include an open gathering area, performance stage, public restrooms, extensive landscaping, and a screening wall with historical markers that will showcase historical Forney business, including High Stylers Beauty Shop which was owned and operated by the parks namesake, Roland Tyler. Mr. Tyler recently retired and sold the shop’s site where the proposed park will be located to the Forney EDC.
The estimated cost of the project is set at $1,993,541.25. Final approval of the project could take several months pending any changes to the proposed plans and final construction documents could take another 4-6 months to complete. The park is expected to increase appeal to Forney’s downtown adding a gathering spot for patrons of businesses, creating an additional attraction for events, and moving downtown Forney closer to a destination for locals and citizens from surrounding cities.
