Have you ever walked into a place to get some grub and at first site your brain tells you to run far far away? Dos Gringos y Amigos had this very experience on a recent trip around taco land. However, we were pleasantly surprised by what we found.
As we continued our mission to find the best tacos in DFW we circled the Dallas area and ended our trip in Garland. Our stop was intended to be a place called La Famosita but once we arrived we discovered that the small taqueria located in a convenience store had already closed for the day. However, a patron was sitting at a table inside and we asked him where the next best place is in town was and he directed us to a Shell station close by on Miller road. We jumped back in the taco-mobile and headed there. There were no expectations as we arrived since it was a gas station. However, as we walked in and scoped out the taqueria our skepticism escalated quickly. It looked to us like the taco meats had been sitting all day, they didn’t fry their corn tortillas, and the place as a whole wasn’t much to look at. But, three out of four of us were still hungry and it was suggested that we try it out.
Between the three of us who were still hungry we ordered the pulled pork, barbacoa, and al pastor. They had green and red salsas to add to the tacos and we tried them both. I have to tell you, the tacos were excellent, especially with the red salsa! The meats were all full of flavor and I was especially impressed with the al pastor. One of our amigos Jose said the pulled pork was amazing as well. Our overall rating was a 3.7 which is only lower due to the atmosphere. Our overall taste rating was a 4.25. This is one of the things I love about our taco search, some of the best food has been found in places most people would be too skeptical to even enter. If you are ever in Garland near 78 and Miller road Dos Gringos y Amigos highly suggests stopping by the Shell station & 24/7 Tacos at 1330 W Miller rd. It’s well worth your time!
